Canada has announced progress on a one-time initiative to help up to 33,000 workers in Canada transition to permanent residence faster.
This initiative focuses on workers who are already living and working in smaller or rural Canadian communities.
Many of these workers have already built strong ties in Canada and are helping fill important labour shortages.
IRCC says the goal is to grant PR to at least 20,000 workers in 2026, with the remaining applicants in 2027.
So who may benefit?
According to IRCC, eligible workers are selected from existing PR inventories.
They may have applied through programs such as the Provincial Nominee Program, the Atlantic Immigration Program, community immigration pilots, caregiver pilots, or the Agri-Food Pilot.
Another important point: IRCC says these workers must have been living in smaller communities in Canada for two years or more.
But remember: this is not a new open application pathway.
Applicants do not need to take any action.
IRCC will identify eligible applications from existing inventories.
